TOC Americas 2022: Keynote speakers, regional ports & logistics challenges

Conference to include themed days in its in-person return

With less than a month to go to the twenty second version of the most important maritime logistics conference in the Latin American region, TOC Americas 2022 reveals the confirmed keynote speakers for the three themed days where the issues to be addressed will include current context, pending challenges, and the future, focusing on “Innovation & Collaboration: The key to resilience,” as the conference’s main theme. 

Each day, delegates attending the Container Supply Chain program will witness an opening presentation from the keynote speakers for every themed day: Business Intelligence, Sustainability Day, and Digital Day. Also, there will be a round table session especially dedicated to regional ports and the logistics challenges they face, which will be developed fully in Spanish, and where attendees will be able to interact with speakers.

Daily keynotes

On Tuesday October 18th, after the welcome speech by Paul Holloway Event Director, TOC Worldwide and Manuel Hinojosa López, President of the Board, National Port Authority of Peru, it will be Ammar Kanaan, CEO, TiL, who kicks off the Business Intelligence Day with his keynote address “Strategic Future Investments for Container Terminals,” where he will talk about what terminals need to consider when investing in automation, strategizing automation at container terminals and measuring the ROI, and forecasting investment trends for terminals in the context of supply chain disruption.

Among other speakers for the first day of the Container Supply Chain track will be Dinesh Sharma, Director – Maritime Advisors, Drewry, Ilya Marotta, Deputy Administrator & Vice President for Operations, Panama Canal, and Ricardo Arten, CEO, Brasil Terminal Portuario (BTP).

Later, on Wednesday October 19th, the Sustainability Day the keynote address “An approach to green legislation” will be delivered by Roel Hoenders, Head of Air Pollution and Energy Efficiency – Marine Environment Division, International Maritime Organisation (IMO), including talking points such as gaining a better understanding of the global regulatory framework for the reduction of carbon emissions, how can the maritime & logistics sector capitalize on current green regulations, and  what role does green legislation place in bridging the sustainability gap across industry the industry. Among other stand out speakers during the second day will be Ginger Garte, Environmental & Sustainability Director, Americas, Lloyd’s Register Maritime Decarbonisation Hub; Diego Galindo, Managing Director, Hapag-Lloyd Peru ¦ Ecuador ¦ Venezuela; Maximiliano Alcorta, Operations Manager, MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company; Erick Alarcón, Senior Manager – Vessel Operations, Latin America, Ocean Network Express (ONE); and Victor Shieh, Communications Director, International Association of Ports and Harbors  (IAPH).

Digital Day’s keynote address will be by Krista Lucenti, Coordinator, Trade and Investment Division, Peru, Inter-American Development Bank (IADB), focusing on the definition of a smart port and its benefits, demystifying investment in digital technologies, and how ports can develop their innovation ecosystems to accelerate the digitalization process. Lucenti will be followed y presentations by Mariela Gutarra, Head of Information Technology & Digital Government Lead, National Port Authority of Peru; and Laura Bercan, Digital Portfolio Owner Data Products – Product Management, APM Terminals, among others.

 

TECH TOC 2022

During the TECH TOC cycle, accessible through the exhibition and available to all visitors and conference delegates, attendees will have the opportunity to answer questions such as what are the new trends driving transforming port operations? How can port infrastructure & equipment adapt to these? What is the goal for automation? How can it become integrated into port & terminal operations and infrastructure? How can terminal operators achieve effective and realistic decarbonization? and how can clean technology help to deliver greener and more sustainable port & terminal operations?

All these questions and more will be answered in carefully crafted sessions dedicated to addressing the next level for ports, automation, green profit and sustainability, clean technology, and smarting port operations.

 

Regional ports: in Spanish  

Despite it being a regional conference in Latin America, the official language of TOC Americas is English. That is why the first-ever round table in Spanish is such welcome news to TECH TOC visitors, as they will be able to join Cesar Rojas, COO, Terminal Portuario Paracas, Diego Cassinelli, General Manager Salaverry Terminal Internacional, and Herman Gratzl, Commercial Manager, Terminal Portuario Arica, and talk about “The role of regional ports in logists.”
